Why Your Support Matters, Now More Than Ever
Hello, Dear Reader,
As the Trump administration unveils its cabinet and pushes forward with Project 2025, the stakes for trans, autistic, and disabled people—and the future of public education—have never been higher. Under the guise of “freedom” and “choice,” this administration is advancing policies that dismantle public goods, target marginalised communities, and entrench inequalities under a veneer of reform. The challenges we face demand clear, intersectional, and independent journalism to expose these threats and equip us to fight back.
That’s why I’m writing to you today. Your support makes this work possible—whether by becoming a subscriber, stepping up as a founding supporter, or simply sharing these articles with those who need to hear them.
Project 2025 is not just about dismantling public education; it’s about reshaping society to prioritise conformity, capital, and power at the expense of the most vulnerable. In The Trump Administration and Project 2025 as a Blueprint for a New Social Compact, I explore how its plans to privatise education under the banner of “choice” threaten to undermine equity, further marginalise disabled and neurodivergent students, and hollow out one of the last public institutions committed to diversity. These are not reforms—they are regressions designed to dismantle the social contract.
Meanwhile, a cabinet stacked with individuals who see autism as something to “cure” and trans existence as a threat signals an all-out assault on the right to exist authentically. In There’s Got to Be a Better Way: An Autistic Critique of Capitalism, I discuss how capitalism fails to meet the needs of those who don’t conform to its narrow definitions of productivity and value. For trans and autistic people, these failures are not incidental but structural, perpetuating exclusion and harm under the guise of efficiency and growth.
And yet, there is hope. As I reflect on my own experiences in Beyond the Series: The Ongoing Reflections of an Autistic Trans Woman in Harmony with Her Identity, I see resilience, creativity, and the possibility of solidarity. Sharing stories, building communities, and standing together against systems designed to divide us are the most powerful tools we have.
Your support ensures that these stories continue to be told. It has allowed me to connect the dots between policy and lived experience, exposing the impact of Project 2025, the “cure” mentality, and the erasure of public education as public good. As new threats emerge—from federal bathroom bans to the rollback of protections for disabled students—this platform will continue to be a space for clarity, action, and hope.
If this work resonates with you, I invite you to become a subscriber or a founding supporter. If that’s not possible right now, please know my articles will remain free and accessible to all who need them. The stakes are too high to lock this knowledge away.
Together, we can build a future where education remains a public good, where trans and autistic lives are valued, and where every individual is free to exist authentically without fear.
With gratitude and determination,
Jaime Hoerricks, PhD
