Having just participated in an historic solidarity unfair labor practice strike against my employer, LAUSD, I processed this blog post with a definite bias. The author asks if student teachers should be paid. I was left wondering why it is that our system expects free labor. I know that when faced with this question, I have friends and family that chose to change career directions rather than lose two years of wages. Where do they expect people to get the money to live on? This mentality is definitely part of the problem undergirding the nationwide teacher shortage.
