I’m not a fan of the Thanksgiving myths in America. I don’t for a moment think that it’s anything but a somewhat phony and artificial holiday. Since it is the US’ only true de facto two-day holiday, this more than makes up for its many flaws. But let’s not be fooled by the Pilgrim nonsense. If you want to get a fact-filled look at the origins of this holiday, click here.
Thank you for this! I would have to disagree with the opinion that anything about it makes up for its flaws, though. It is a horribly oppressive holiday based on denial of the earliest instances of genocidal violence against Indigenous people here.
BTW - don't know if it's just me, but the link to the dvorak blog doesn't seem to work. I just get a blank page, and nothing else.
