Hello, Dear Readers,
As the dust settles from the election, I’ve found myself reflecting deeply on what’s next for those of us on the front lines of advocating for justice and humanity. This moment—fraught with fear and uncertainty—demands clarity, courage, and community.
Let’s be honest: the existence and rights of trans people, disabled people, and others who dare to challenge the status quo are not just being debated; they’re being attacked. With California’s progressive reputation, you’d think we might be safe here. But the truth is, we’re only as protected as the rights of the most vulnerable in the most hostile states.
Even here, in the so-called “land of the free,” we see cracks forming. Policies that chip away at dignity. Laws that disregard lived realities. Movements fuelled by misinformation. And yet, I remain steadfast. Because that’s what we do, isn’t it? We keep showing up, writing our truths, and connecting the dots others miss.
The fight isn’t just about legislation or elections—it’s about shifting the culture itself. It’s about pulling back the veil on narratives designed to silence us. It’s about amplifying the voices of those the media ignores and unpacking the truths the systems hope you’ll never see.
I can do that. I am doing that. But I can’t do it alone.
Since launching this Substack, I’ve been overwhelmed by the support of this incredible, worldwide community. You’ve read my words, shared my stories, and used them to spark meaningful conversations. Many of you have reached out to tell me how my work has helped you understand not just the world around you but also yourselves. That means everything to me.
Still, let’s not pretend this work doesn’t require resources. We are up against well-funded think tanks, massive ad campaigns, and an ever-expanding propaganda machine. Every time I write, I am choosing to stand against those forces. I don’t have $215 million in backing. I have you.
So, here’s the ask: if you find value in what I do—if my words have helped you make sense of these turbulent times—please consider becoming a paying subscriber. Your support ensures that I can keep this space accessible to everyone who needs it, especially those who cannot afford to contribute.
If you’re able to go a step further, you can join as a founding subscriber. Your additional support helps me do more—more research, more in-depth reporting, more outreach to uplift our community.
This work is not about me; it’s about us. It’s about holding the line for those who come after us. It’s about telling the stories that matter. And it’s about reminding the world that we are not a debate to be settled—we are people, deserving of rights, dignity, and love.
To my readers, I say thank you—for believing in me, for showing up, for caring. We’re in this together, and together, we’re unstoppable.
Let’s keep going. The moral arc of the universe bends toward justice, and we will not just wait for it. We will grab hold and pull.
In solidarity and hope,
Jaime
